Phone Scammers Impersonating Staff of SFHK
2024-08-23

Defrauding Tricks

Recently, scammers called members of the public in the form of pre-recorded voice messages or in Putonghua, falsely claiming that they were staff of SF Express (Hong Kong) (SFHK) and the recipients’ parcels contained contraband. They then forwarded the calls to bogus Mainland law enforcement officers, who accused the recipients of being involved in criminal cases such as money laundering and drug trafficking. In order to gain the victims’ trust, the scammers would instruct them to log on to a fraudulent website of a Mainland law enforcement agency and showed them forged wanted warrants. The scammers would then ask the victims to provide personal information (e.g. online banking usernames and passwords) or transfer money to designated bank accounts as guarantee money on the grounds of proving their innocence.
